87 350 L98 engine ?'s Please help!

I have an 87 IROC that has a 350 L98 in it. The TPI system was removed for numerous reasons and I am now going with a carb. I was wondering if I had to use the 87-95 style heads on this car because of the way they mounted to the block? Or can I change heads to the pre 87 style allowing me to use a wider selection of manifolds? Upon hearing the results of this, could you guys also suggest a manifold to use, I have a 355 with a ZZ3 cam looking for performance over economy, thanks!

WB,

You should be able to bolt the older perimeter bolt style heads to the case with no alignment or fitment problems. The only SBC heads you can't bolt on are the LT1/4 and LS1/6 heads.

dont change your heads unless you are going aftermarket! The L98 heads are nice and you could just grind on the center holes to make an older intake bolt up to the newer heads. check out the holley PN-300-70 intake or the performer PN-2104 intake. Dont chuck those heads for some ****ty castings just so you can use a different intake!
