Non 3rd-Gen Question on 89 Ranger

My daily driver 89 Ford Ranger (pos) 2.3 5-spd. Well On my way home tonight the damn thing started losing power on accel and seemed to miss I was at about 75 MPH and was giving it gas and it was stumbling and slowing down put in fourth and still did the same I found a place to pull over and pop open the hood and the manifold was red hot about to the converter what gives? Is the converter clogged up? What usually caused this? Any help on this would be great, Thanks Jason

I Know Ford's Suck. I got it about 3 weeks ago so I could start fixing my 87 Trans Am I need something to get around in and I looked for almost a month for S-10's under $1000.00 and were none but a hell of a lot of Fords. So I broke down and got one. Anyway The converter is what I was thinging of but was not sure. PS: On the back of my Ford Ranger is Calvin pissing on the Ford logo.

Engine: uhuh
Transmission: sure does
Thats what it sounds like, converter plugged.

Try unbolting the ex. at the manifold and drive it down the highway, see if its better.
