What kinda lifters?

Hey guys, been awhile. Just bought an 89 Trans Am LO3, looking to put a cam into it but new to this engine. What kinda lifters are in here roller or flat tappets? Also what is the weakest point on this motor which I should work out? Thanks, just gettin some simple pointers.

Look over on the TBI forum. They'll set you in the right direction.

(BTW, roller lifters. Typically, they can be transfered to the new cam.)

Ok thanks! Im used to just the tappet setups so does the cam have to be designed for roller lifters or is there no difference between the two shafts? Thanks again.

get a roller cam. The roller lifters allow you to increase your amount of lift, since they can go at a steeper angle than their tapet counter-parts. Thus, the power curve increases greatly with a roller lifter. There is a difference, just make sure you buy a cam that says "for hydrolic roller lifters." they're actually quite common. I'm running Comp Cams hydro-roller lifter cam.

And make sure your valve springs are up to par to handle the cam. Cant stress that enough.
