I need power.
I need power.
I have a '89 RS Camaro. 305 TBI, 700R4 trans. I have added a K&N, Dynomax Superflow cat, and a Jet performance chip. Not a lot I know, pretty much stock. I am now looking into some upgrades. Where should I start? What will give me the most power? I have a budget of 1,000 dollars and dont know where it would be best to spend it. Please help.
Thanks.

Here is what I have done to my 86 IROC and am happy with the results, Edlebrock TES headers, 3" exhaust, small underdrive crank pulley, and definately do a cam swap which will really add some power, that will even leave you with left over money. Maybe invest in a 3:73 posi rear.

Well first of all a shop would charge you out the @ss to change a cam. I don't know how to work on cars to well, but I had brother to the cam. Whether you can do it depends on a couple of things I guess. How much time do you have, it will take some time depending if you have a garage or are doing it outside. You have to take the radiator out, intake and TBI off, all pulleys off, and to pull the cam out can be just a little tricky b/c you have to bend the support bars in front of the radiator not really a problem though, also take the valve covers off. Plus while installing a cam you'll have to get a new timing chain, which I think Edelbrock sells a double roller for $45 and you'll have to get new lifters. Now here is where it might get a little tricky when you install the lifters b/c you'll have to readjust the valves, and you definately want to get someone who knows how to do it. One of 2 things could happen that I know w/improper valve adjustment 1. too tight will bend pushrods 2. not adjusted at the correct lash will cause incorrect timing on the valves opening and closing, I pretty sure I am right on those 2 assumptions but then again I could be wrong.
