Starter Problem

I have a 92 RS with the 5.0 TBI. I went to start it today and it wont turn over. The battery seems to be fully charged. I can hear the starter engaging but it seems to have no power to it as the engine wont start turning over. I am not sure what the problem is but I do want to take a look at my starter. Problem is, as I do not know much about cars I don't even know where the starter is... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you hear a ticking sound it could be that the starter is taost or that your battery is. A dying battery can still light up your interior and fool you in thinking that it has enough charge. You could take off the starter and Autozone will test it and let you know if it is good. You can do the same for the battery which is a lot easier to take out. I will move this the appropriate forum for you.

Are you getting a click when you try to turn it over? I have that problem every now and then. It will start after I try it 7 or 8 times.

If you feel it is the starter, It is located under the passenger side of the car right about where the passengers legs would be about in the center of the car. It is about the size and shape of a coffee can with a smaller round cylinder attached to it (that is the selenoid).

It is held on by two long bolts (one is really long.) It is not very hard to change just a pain. Two bolts out and wiggle it past the exhaust. If you have an aftermarket 3" exhaust this may not be easy. Some people have to unbolt their exhaust, but that is not hard either. The wires will be on top, a little tricky to get to but very doable. By the way make sure you disconnect your battery first.

Just be careful after you take those bolts out, it is heavy. Some people have dropped the starter on their head. (voice of experience...I'll let you decide.)

I think I still have a bump from that. It is almost easier to get the wires off of it before you remove it. Aftermarket y-pipes make it super hard to get out. If you need to take it out it is a 9/16" socket and you will need an extension or deep well.

Yeah. I didn't like them at first and had decided to take them off when I bought the car three years ago. But I like them now. kinda breaks it up a bit. Also makes it unique. I'll leave them as long as they look good and don't start to crack and peel.

i haven't gotten a chance to do anything yet due to snow and rain, i was told by many people to just hit it with a hammer and it will start right up, hehe. I am going to give it a try tommorrow so we shall see what happens.
