Fuel Pressure Regulator leaking

I put on an accell adjustable fuel pressure regulator and it leaks.. I put it on how the stock one came on it, which dosen't seem right to me. Someone replaced it before, and I'm not to sure they put it on right. I need to basicaly find out how it goes on to the engine.

The way it was before I started was like this. from bottom to top

1. A ring about 1/16" thick with 8 holes with a bead on one of the sides, bead side down.
2. The fuel pressure diagphram
3. Housing

and when I installed the accell one

1. The same ring facing the same way stated above.
2. The fuel pressure diagphram
3. Something that looks like a quater
4. Adjustable housing

I used the bottom ring thing from the stock one with the accel one cause the accell one didn't come with one, and the stock one didn't have the diagphram touching the metal mounting thing.

It also seems weird that the bead on the ring thing would be facing down instead of up. I'll try to get some pictures up in a little to try to explain better

Here's the order from fuel rail up:

Diaphragm with spring facing up, "quarter" on top of spring, housing with adjusting bolt, ring with lip facing up, not down, bolts.

I'm not clear on the "bead" reference. My stock one has a raised lip, not a bead. Sort of like the lips you'd find on the timing chain cover and oil pan outer edges.

The rubber diaphragm must be in contact with the mounting pad on the fuel rails. The outer ring acts just like the removable rails that are on some of the oil pans; helps evenly distribute clamping force.

Think of it in the same way you'd install an oil pan. Gasket, oil pan, re-inforcing rails, bolts.

the ring won't fit over the adjustable housing.. should I just leave it out? The adjustable housing's bottom is about 3 times as thick as the orriginal too, so it seems almost like it wasn't intended to use a reinforcement ring.. unless I got screwed and they didn't send me one..

Here are some pics

This is how it was when I took it off orriginaly (don't seem right at all)

Here are all the parts from the adj. regulator

<a href="http://www.marks-mall.com/orig.jpg"All the orriginal parts, in the order they were while installed.. This makes me wonder if my car has been leaking the whole time i've owned it.. scary..

Thickness difference between old housing and new one

The old ring not fitting over new housing.. it fits over the old one..

so, am I susposed to have a reinforcement ring, or does this one not need one?

And this would be the right way to install it, if i don't need the reinforcement ring, right?

It's weird that the old one was installed wrong like that.. I'm just glad my car didn't blow up or anything.. thank god it went out so soon.. oh well..

I have the Accel too and didn't use the reinforcing ring. A year later and it's fine. The only problem is my el cheapo Accel fuel pressure guage is stuck, so I have to guess at what the FP is.

From your pics, you don't need the reinforcing ring on the adjustable regulator.

The flange is so thick that it takes the place of the ring.

Just install the diaphragm, "quarter" housing and bolts. The rubber of the diaphragm will seal any leak.

Don't overtorque the bolts or they will snap.
