Hard to start when hot

'86 IROC with stock 305 TPI. It starts fine the first time of the day, and any other time if it's sat for more than like 5 hours. It also cranks right up if it is hot and only sits for less than five minutes. But anything from 5min-5hours it just cranks and cranks before it ever hits.

I've had the injectors rebuilt @cruzing performance and installed new rotor, cap, and plugs and wires.
new O2
new CTS
checked timing it's @6*
checked the sensor on the bottom of the plenum it was in spec with a chart vader posted on here awhile back. So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

yank your plugs and see what they look like... are your spark plug wires old?

either you aren't getting gas or you aren't getting spark.. one of the two

check your fuel pressure and see if it's at spec, if it is, your problem is spark

My wires aren't old at all. In regards to lack of spark, could a bad ignition module be the cause?

Check for spark, if you have none when its warm I would look into something like your pickup coil or your est module...that litle module that sits in the distributor.

The only weird thing is that if the est were to fail once the car was warm, the car would not run, same thing applies for the pickup coil. But I assume the car runs, after its warm, just if you stop it it won't start back up.

aaah, I had an 86 TPI that did the same thing. It always started but took much longer if it heat soaked any at all.
The ECM looks at the CTS to determine cold-start enrichment normally... but the 86 also has that stupid cold-start injector which I eventually removed and plugged off.

Another thing. Before the problem started my fuel pressure would not drop after sitting for a few minutes (car turned off). Then I noticed the fuel pressure dropping to zero within seconds of turning the car off... the same time as the hard starting problem showed up. May have been a regulator problem. I did have an AFPR.
Coincidence?

Like I said I removed the cold-start injector, but I also took the ECM and fuel pump relay & oil pressure switch out of the picture. I wired the pump with my own relay to come on when the key is turned.
The problem was solved, but I honestly cannot say for sure what was causing it.

Hmm cold start injector sounds like a good place to start for me where exactly is that located and what can I use to plug that hole? is it just like another injector?
