Need help changing fuel filter fast!!

Okay, so I go to change my fuel filter tonight because it's never been done as far as I know. I take the inline fuse out, and the fuse out of the fuse panel, for the fuel pump... Crank the engine over to let all the remaining fuel empty out.. I even made sure by noticing that zero fuel was coming out of the injectors.. Then I go and open the gascap to depressurize the tank. So I think I'm fine. Then, when I go to unbolt the fuel filter, gas just keeps coming out of it. So far I've filled two snapple bottles with gas. Is this normal? Will it keep draining until the entire tank is empty? Or do I just need to be really fast about getting the old oneoff and putting the new one on?

Oh, by the way.. I did have the back end of the car on ramps for a while to get to it easier. I read a post that that would cause it to leak because of gravity so I coasted off the ramps and now have the front end up on jackstands to try to prevent that again. It's still trickling right now though, HOPEfully only from residual gas in the lines.

There is a check valve in the pump. The gas you see is coming from the lines and fuel rails.

When I changed the fuel filter in my 89 RS I had the exact same problem. What I determined is, yes the fuel coming from the tank will just keep draining. What I did was use some vise-grips and lightly clamp the rubber hose higher up. and presto the fuel stopped. then changing the filter was very easy.

Opening your gas cap will only help the siphon.

Yeah, I realized that after the tank was depressurized I should put the gascap back on. Well, now my only problem is I can't seem to get one of the bolts back on. But that'll just require some wiggling and what-not.
