non EGR intake with computer carb

What effects will running a non EGR intake have on the stock computer and carb? I've been told it will always run lean without EGR but won't the carb adjust the mixture accordingly. Also, will the check engine light always be on or will the computer not know the difference? Anybody running this kind of combo let me know how well it works or any problems you've had. Thanks

egr has nothing to do with air/fuel ratio. The only effects you would see is possible increase in detonation. EGR simply cools down the combusustion temperature which lessens the threat of detonation.

Will the check engine light be on when the computer doesn't "see" any EGR. I don't really know everything the computer controls on the early carb cars but I'm worried about drivability problems with disconnecting it. I don't think I'll have a detonation problem with my current setup though. Thanks

Well, I thought it would Code, But I took every emissions peice off My friends 86 Z28 ( Lg4) and it didnt Code.

So I guess not

You wont have any problems Running a Non EGR manifold. If you want to keep some of the Temp actuated Vaccum switches for Stuff like the Exhuast crossover and Smog pump and stuff, then you may have to consider Finding ports for them.

But if your dumping EGR, might as well Dump all that **** too )

Thats what I needed to know. I've been running without the smog pump for a couple of years but I was a little worried about tearing off the other emmisions hardware without having problems. My plan is to scrap all emmisions but retain the stock carb and distributer as long as its my daily driver. Thanks again

The only diagnostic your computer has related the EGR is for the EGR solenoid. As long as you leave that plugged in you'll be fine, it doens't matter if the valve is actually hooked up.
