Smaller australian cam? uh what?

I started thinking about something the mechanic told me when I had my car in for a checkup, he commented on the cam, I think it's the cam, bakaxel in swedish anyway, and said something about it being a smaller australian one? Started thinking about this, anyone know what he's referring to?

....going to take a stab at this and say possibly back axle=bakaxel. Australian Borg Warner rear ends were forund in the earlier GTA's. Without being there with my Sweedish translator, its only a guess

Well yes, that seems pretty straightforward, though I had kinda thought it was a cam in english, oh well, back axle it is, or maybe rear axle, and my GTA is of model 91, hardly an early model eh?

So, whats up with this australian thing then? Is it a bad axle, a good one? Does it even matter?

they're stronger then the standard 10 bolts found in most 3rd gen cars, only problem is when they break parts are hard to find. defently a better rear end then the 10 bolt though. Some easy ways to tell if its the Aussi rear is to look at the diff cover, if it has a rubber fill plug in it its a 9 bolt, if you have disc brakes, its probably a 9 bolt, if it has 9 bolts its probably a 9 bolt Don't think they were in production in 91 though....

Who knows what alterations might have been done to the car, it has two previous owners, a girl born in 1966, and a guy born in 1939.

I do know of these alterations:
-Muffler's been replaced with a glasspack
-The hood has been replaced, with another stock one though(which is good because I think those are the best looking, don't like ramair hoods or similar ones myself).
