ATTN turbo experts: How hard would this be??
How hard would it be to go to the junk yard, and pull a turbo off something like a V6 thunderbird, then adapt it to fit a carbed car? What about tpi? There are plenty of turbo-v6 t-birds in the junk yards around here, and most of them look like the turbo is in
good shape.

Well, Im no Turbo Expert, But I consider Myself a Turbo-Informed Individual.
The Idea is Simple. PLumb the Turbo Into the Exhuast and Push air into the carb.
The application Is alot harder ( Isnt that always the case ? )
What are you looking at ?
First off, With an engine as big as the 350, You will be hard pressed to Find a Single Turbo With enough Huff To Feed it.
So the Usual answer is Twin Turbos.
Two To3's May Be Decent, Two T04's Would be better, But thats a Whole Nother arguement.
What You would need to Do is Fab a exhuast manifold That Provides for the Turbo Mounting. then You need to decide If Your Running Draw through or Blow through. I would think Blow through would be the best answer On OUr cars.
Anyhow Once You have the exhuast routed Such that the Turbo's Spin ( not quite as easy as it sounds, btw ) Then You gotta Pump that air through the Carb. Not all that hard, Just Fab Up some Ducting ( haha, not that simple ) and Your blowing.
Simple as that ? no.
You need to setup a wastegate, To keep from Boosting Your Motor Into fragments. You also need to Setup a Boost Actuated Fuel pressure switch, Increase pressure with boost ( if you plan to run any decent amount, anyway )
Also Keep In Mind you have to retard timing as boost rises.
PLumb Some Oiling lines for the Turbos to keep them Spinning.
If Your going to go through all that trouble, Your Going to Want Intercoolers, More plumbing. Oh yeah, No intercooler For Draw thru, Unless yOU like creating Pipes Full Of Atomized, Cool, dense Gasoline/air Mixture Waiting For A backfire...
Lets not Forget that if your going to Go to all this trouble, Your gonna want to Run some Signifigant boost. So If you want to keep it all attaced, Forged pistons, Rods, crank, $$$
All In all its not all that hard, Im sure I Have Forgotten something, but its mostly there. The problem is actually Doing it.
$$$$
But it has been Done, and Will Continue to get easier )

my friend had a diesel 4cyl rabbit. he got a turbo off a mercedes and hooked it up. then he got propane and plumbed it into the intake. propane is like Nos on diesel. and he had the BBQ tank in the back. lol. he blew it of course.

I have a friend named Mike who is a turbo expert and has done what you are talking about with junkyard turbos several times & created several ten second cars.
