Power loss

What could cause my 89 Iroc-Z28 to overcharge besides the alternator. Resulting in power loss.

FBI,

Welcome aboard!

Since the regulator is integral to the alternator, there is really little outside the alternator that can cause overcharging. It is possible that the field connections at the alternator are poor, but beyond that most overcharging will be due to the rectifier bridge, regulator, poor regulator grounding, and partially shorted rotor, or a grounded diagnostic tab on the regulator package - all within the alternator housing.

Check the battery connections, alternator connections, and grounds, then attack the alternator if necessary.
