tranny crossmember bolts broke!

tranny crossmember bolts broke!

whats the best way to repair bolts that snapped off the crossmember? drill and re-tap? what would you guys recommend?

Do you mean to say they broke off or stripped in the frame rails?

If so you'll need to cut an access hole in the side of th frame rail near where the crossmember nut is located.
Cut a "U" shaped door and fold the sheet metal back.
then you can cut out the nut with a cutting torch and then weld in a new stainless nut. use a stainless bolt too.

no they snapped off and the bolts are still in there

Follow the post above. Blow the old broken off bolt and nut out with a cutting torch, Weld in new nuts and button it back up. had to do this to mine.
Don't use impact tools on these bolts.

if the nuts arnt stripped themselves and you just have broken off bolts stuck in the hole i'd try some easy outs first, then if the threads in the nuts are still good just replace the bolts, if all is lost follow the above post.
