Not really a problem, but anyone know the part #?
Hey there,
I'm looking to replace the hood release. It sticks and doesn't release properly. I figured replacing it is probably the easiest option. Anyone know the part # so I can get it replaced? Or know of a good way to clean it off? It's really covered in oil, and dirt.

That's kinda a common problem with the hood release cable. I just lube it with some WD-40 every so often and it works ok. Unless the cable is broken I think replacing it would be too much of a PITA. If you still want the part number, I can look it up in my parts catalog on Monday when I get back to work, just email me.
Clean, lube, and adjust.
As long as we're on the topic, save the WD-40 for rusty bolts and use white lithium grease instead. WD-40 have very low lubricating properties and doesn't last long. I got in an argument with a local Chevrolet dealer service manager about their use of WD-40 on a brand new van taken in for routine 3,000 mile service/oil change. I ended up showing him the page in HIS GM service manual that dictated the use of white lithium on hinges and latches, not WD-40. The factory assembly lube on these parts is white lithium, like Lubriplate Aero or Superlube lithium spray.
He wasn't very receptive, and I'm not planning to go back there soon. I knew there was a reason I do this stuff myself...
