Stupid Question
I know this is a stupid question but, is there a real easy way to change the oil sending unit on a 350 tpi? Just wanting to know if somebody has a trick to it. Thanks

I am not that stupid. How the hell do you get any thing on it to tighten it down. I can't get a wrench on it and the biggest deep-well socket I have won't fight the sensor inside it. Give me a break.

Have you tried the small hex-style base that i think is roughly 9/16? Slip a open end wrench over that and turn.

Thanks for the answer. The sending unit that is on mine is about 2.5" long that is with the plastic end. The only wrench that I can get on it is 1 1/16". The deep-well socket that I have is about 1/4" from the the head that is with the plasitic piece inside. If I put it on backwards (that is with the threads inside the socket) it fits the head but the socket is backwards and it won't work that way. The deep-well socket I have will get the broken one out but, I will not have a way to tighten the new one down. I wish I had a camera so I can show you what I mean.

Every sender i have ever installed on my Camaro was like this. THat includes both OEM replacement and aftermarket.

Granted yours may be a different NPT and a different 6 pt size, but either way, thats what you put the wrench around, NOT the whole sending unit.

you need a socket to fit the sender reguardless of whether you want to admit it or not. go to whatever parts store you shop at and ask for a socket to fit the sender. a cheap one should cost around 10 dollars.
For what its worth, I used a big open end wrench (1-1/16 sounds about right). Able to get mine in there, turn it a bit, turn the wrench backwards, and repeat...a little at the time.
You could just ******* it and tear the sender off with vice grips, chisel and hammer, cutoff wheel or something...and then get to the actual metal part a little easier.
Edit: Oh, you already have it out...
I was still able to put mine back in with open end wrench.

Thanks, I knew I could not be the only one. Do you have headers or manifolds? Could you reach it through one of the openings in the header?
I have headers, but they weren't in the picture IIRC. Smething else was in the way. I'll be under the car this evening, I'll take a look... I was able to get to it though, was not difficult, just tedious. Arm got tired a couple of times.
