are you saying you dont need a key to turn the ignition cylinder? you could simply buy a new lock cylinder or get one from a junkyard if it has a key with it, or buy a new one from the dealer and have it keyed to use ur key.

Since the key only operates the IGN you could just run down to any parts store and buy a new key & tumbler depending on the year $25 and most of the tools you would need to change it can be loaned out at azone. I think the labor time is 1.2-1.6 depending on the labor rate might run around $120-150.

I think he was simply refering to how much it would cost to have the tumbler rekeyed, but I could be wrong, a locksmith would probably do it for 10-15 bucks if you install it yourself, just buy the parts and provide them with your old key.

it would be a lot cheaper to do it yourself even if you have to buy the tools, all you need is a lockplate tool and a wheel puller, probably 10 or 15 bucks togather from a local parts store, if you are unfamiliar with how to do it do a search for one of vaders diagrams on dissassembling a steering column its pretty straight forward.
