Question for those of you that have a Stewart water pump...

I got my Stewart stage 1 water pump (p/n 13123) today. I was comparing it to my stock one on my RS and noticed a slight difference. On my stock water pump, it looks like it has a weep hole on the top side (as well as one underneath it). The Stewart water pump has the weep hole underneath but up top it has a cast protrusion that has a threaded hole (big enough for my pinky finger to fit in). Otherwise it looks the same as my stock water pump. Does anybody know what that hole is for? Do I need to plug it, and if so with what? Or can I leave it unplugged? I don't think I can leave it unplugged because I think the passage is connected to the water passages. I know I can just call Stewart on monday but thought maybe someone here might have the answer already.

Just plug the hole with a cast iron pipe plug from any hardware store. If you don't you are gonna get wet.

You need to plug it up. If you are not sure what size plug you need, just take the pump to your local NAPA store and they can find one that will work.

Use a brass one instead. You can polish brass, can't polish cast iron.

I got the cast iron one so it's gonna get painted black.

So, anyone know what that hole it for? Maybe a sensor, like a coolant temp sensor for some applications? It's the only thing I can think of why they would put it there.

Also, when I plug it do I need to use any sort of sealer? If so, what kind? Thanks.

Just dab alittle permatex on the threads and you will be fine. In other applications, that hole is used for a fitting that completes the coolant system for the heater core.
