Car pops when I stop! help!!!

Car pops when I stop! help!!!
I have an 86 TA and a few days ago my car started to pop when i was stopping. I kind of sounds like it may be in the front pass. side. The thing is it does it when it is down shifting(I have an auto trans). the only time it is when I'm braking normally or hard. If i brake real slow it doesn't do it. Can anyone let me know what the problem may be. THANKS Jason
