What is an easy way of removing the piston and pin from the rod. Can i just heat up the rod with a torch and try and press it through. I don't have a press here, but i could go to the machine shop at school(UofI) and do it. Or should i just take it to a shop and have them do it. THe reason i ask is because i bought a 350 shortblock from a friend. It had a broken piston in it and he wants it for a trophy piece. I don't really care about the rods because i will probably use aftermarket capscrew rods for my 383.

If you don't care about the rod, just place a drift under the opposite side of the piston and press the pin out. "You don't need no steenkin' heat..."

 

I'd leave the rod on; that way you can nail it to the wall.

 

press or heat is only way i know. you'd have to be careful with either method if you don't want to trash the rod.
