voltage guage

this thing doesnt stay at 14.4 it just stays at 12.0 or maYBE 12.5 volts. at idle in park it sometimes reaches proper voltage but not consistantly. is there a way i could check to see if i have a exessive draw somewhere? thanks people

Your gage is most likely inaccurate. Using a meter, check the voltage at the battery. Check it at idle and at 1000 RPM or so. Note the difference and simply keep that in mind when looking at your instrument panel.

Mine reads just over 13, but the ECM sees around 14. Measuring the voltage within the printed circuit of the instrument cluster is a poor choice if accuracy is important. It's done that way for ease of manufacturing.
