just pulled my my 86 305 tpi cam out of car

how do i no if its the peanut cam , someone please help

take some calipers and measure the lift. then multiply by 1.5 and check against the cam charts on this site under tech articles.

If it's the stock cam, it's the "peanut" or "LA" (LameAss) cam. Get as far away from it as possible, since once it is exposed to natural sunlight and atmosphere it will try to suck all the power out of the universe and collapse it. It is so devoid of any power capability that is acts as a "black hole" for any form of power or energy. You're lucky it hasn't sucked all your light bulbs, receptacles, Honda generators, minor league baseball teams, etcetera into it already. It would be best if you could bury it in the back yard (under cover of darkness, of course) beneath some sort of shrubbery that would benefit from the extra iron before it becomes some sort of X-File or National Enquirer article or something.

problem is the original owner had to replace the engine in 87 the 86 blew up , so thats why i want to make sure if its the peanut cam , i;m in the process of porting the 416 heads ,

i have no clue how to measure it

I think the better question is, why does it matter? If you are concerned about performance, and have the motor apart, put in a good cam. Wether its the peanut cam, or the good cam, it still sucks compared the the performance cams availible today.
