On the way to Seatac last week my alternator went south. I noticed the voltage gauge was way down and fluctuating a lot. Later came the high pitched noise, sounded like a supercharger. Now I noticed that my oil pressure guage has been fluctuating, at one point it got low enough while i was pulling into my driveway that i had to shut it down. Could the alternator be causing the other guages to go crazy or do i also have an oil pump problem? The brake light in the dash hasn't lit up for a while when it is engaged (before the alternator problem), could this be indicative of a dash wiring problem? I changed the oil pressure sending unit last summer, which fixed a previous high reading. I'm trying to sell this car so this is the last thing that I need. Any suggestions?

I'll bet the oil gage freaking out was just a result of the alternator dying. I've heard of bad alternators making gages do weird things. When my alternator died, my oil gage would tick along with the blinkers when I had my turn signal on.

Ya I've seen some wierd things when it comes to altenators going, so it's entierly possible.By the way what is it your trying to sell???????

Oops, looks like I goofed. The car is a 1990 Formula 5.0L TPI 5 speed. Black with black interior.
