Anybody with vortec heads?

I was thinking of putting a set on my car. I have a few questions about them I would like to ask you guys.

1. Will normal valve springs fit on them? I read only a certain type fit on them. How about the comp cams 981's?

2. Do they require a special length pushrod?

3. Is there a big increase in power over the TPI center bolt heads?

4. Any problems you incountered while installing them? Thanks.

1 - not sure, sorry
2 - No, if you have flat lifters get pre 86 rods, if roller get after 87 rods
3 - Yes, as to how much increase I'm not sure. I do know that they were designed with the LT1 in mind though.
4 - As long as you have the right manifold you'll be fine. I would suggest getting a vortec specific manifold because of the port design of the vortecs. The only problem you might come to is that your accessory brakets may not fit perfectly, but it would be because of the intake manifold and not the heads. All mounting locations on the heads are the same.

It's been a while since I did my swap so I've forgotten some stuff. Hope I helped.

what valve springs are you using? The stock ones? If they are aftermarket which ones are you using and how much did they cost?

I'm using the stcok springs. Some say I'm over their limit, some say I'm just under, but they seem to be just fine for my cam.
