k&n filter quick question

hey first of all id like to say hello to everyone im new here this is my first post
i just bought an 87 iroc 305 tpi and the guy gave me a k&n filter that attaches directly to the throttle body....but the stock intake has some little electrical thing plugged into it, im assuming its a sensor of some sort. the k&n has no place for this to be plugged into, so im wondering what would happen if i put the k&n on and just didnt plug the thing into anything? thanks

Ross

thats the Mass Airflow Sensor, or MAF it tells the ecm how much air is comming into the engine. This sensor is critical. The filter you have is for the 90-92 speed density cars which did not use a MAF sensor. In any case your filter is a bad design it just sucks up all the hot air that is around the engine. Get the dual K&Ns for the stock locations.

your car wont run right with that sensor (or any sensor) disconnected. just buy a K&N for the factory canister or make a homemade CAI of some sort.

EDIT: oops the canister thing is only for firebirds which i thought you had.

thanks guys
for now i'll probably just leave it stock
am i correct in saying that the dual k&n's in the stock locations wouldnt even really help that much because my engine is stock besides the exhaust? so its really not worth getting until i get some serious upgrades?

every little bit helps

i believe there's a tech article on how to make an effective ram air/CAI setup on camaros thru the factory foglights using K&N's. one of those "free" mods.
