shaved heads???

hockay!.

Today I went and talked to the previous owner of the TransAm to get the spare parts that he had. One of the parts was teh haynes shop manual "SCORE!". Also included was the old manifolds, and some other odds and ends that I couldn't identify to save my life.

Anywho!. He was mentioning things that he did and one of them was Shaving the heads. What exactly does that mean. He stated that the shaved heads won't give full perfomance cuz the exhaust is too restrictive. He said in order to take full advatage of the shaved heads I would need to upgrade to a higher flowing exhaust and I should get some sweet gains out of the car.

What the heck is shaving the heads?

Shaving the heads is another word for milling them. They take a small amount of material off the bottom face of the head (the face that touches the block). This decreases the volume of the chamber and increases compression ratio. It can be a good thing or bad depending on what type of motor you run them on and what type of heads they are.
