Code 24

This may be old news to most of you guys, but I learned something today about code 24 (VSS circuit fault); recently, my speedo was bouncing around erratically and then finally died. The ECM flashed me code 24, so I took the car to my friendly neighborhood Chevy dealer. The tech lubed the cable and it worked fine for about 2 hours...then the speedo died again

I finally had time today (two weeks later) to drop it off (again) for the speedo problem and tranny mount install (ES poly mount - good call, too. The existing mount was dried, crumbling, and cracked in half). The same tech said that the cable was firmly attached to the speedo and the transmission. He also told me that the VSS gets its signal from the speedo, so if the speedo isn't working and the ECM flashes code 24, it's either a problem with the speedo or the cable. If the speedo IS working and the ECM flashes code 24, it's a VSS problem.

I didn't know this, so I thought I'd share what I learned with those who don't know. Somebody correct me if the tech was wrong.

On an unrelated positive note, I scored a brand-new passenger fender for $40 from one of the techs (I know most of them by name - the car's been there quite a few times. Heh.)

The wiring (at least in the detail your picture speaks of) didn't occur to me at the time, but that's good info! I'll mention it to Eric on Monday when he checks the car (again). I'll give 'em another hour to work on it so he can swap out speedo cables and check the wiring in that diagram. Thanks for the heads-up.

PS - I'm gonna see if I can score a driver side fender for that same price. All I'll need then is the rest of the car
