Insulated post on the back = thick wire that goes to the battery

Brown wire = idiot light

Thin red wire = sense lead (hooks to the point that the alt will then attempt to maintain at exactly 14.2 volts or whatever)

Probably goes to the big post, along with the one that goes to the batt; or to somewhere along the battery run under the hood, such as the starter post or one of the splices. To hard battery in any case. In my 83, it originally was about 6" long, and just jumped over to the post, out in the open.

The batt one is often part of the positive batt cable.

Brown wire = volt meter on instrument panel.

Red wire = fusible link to starter solenoid.

Post on back of alternator = black wire to positive terminal on battery.
