Sensors on my engine?

I had to bring my car to a mechanic to get it looked at, failing the emissions pretty badly, and it's blowing through a ton of fuel.

Mass air sensor is screwy and it's causing too much fuel to be dumped into the engine, he says. He hits it, emissions drop because the sensor starts working. Hits it again, emissions go up. He says he did it back and forth a dozen times, but when he tried showing me it wouldn't work, they just stayed low. The only difference between the two when it's running is it lost the slight bucking under load at around 1500rpm.

Anyway, he says my MAP sensor needs replacing.. but it's an 87 with a 2.8 MPFI. I thought those were MAF's.

I've got two things marked on a picture, if anyone can tell me what they are. The one going to the intake is a MAF, right? The other one, I don't have a clue on. Just sits behind the air box.

The arrow on the left is a maf. The one on the right is probably an iat(intake air temp).
