Vapor Canister question
When I bought my car, almost all emissions were removed. Its an 84 z28, edelbrock intake, demon carb, mallory hei. The vapor canister is like halfway connected.... The hard line comes up and connects to what i think is the pressure control valve, and then to the canister. that valve has a little vacuum port on it that is not hooked up, what should that go to? full manifold vacuum? ported vacuum? So it goes from the hard ventline to rubber to that valve then to rubber then to the canister. However, the second line off the canister is just cut and hanging there, its a big vacuum/fuel line, like 3/8s maybe. Where should that be connected to? The car seems to drive good, I dont ever really smell anything unless i park it in my garage for awhile, then its just a weird smell. Is the way it is setup ok? I would like to have it working correctly. I hope I explained this situation good enough.

The canister wont purge without the ecm contolling it so theres really no reason to keep it. I would just install a vent at the line that goes to the gas tank.

That may be true on a 91-92 car, but I can't see a relationship with the ECM and the carbon canister on a 84.
I know I'm interested in the answer too because I also have a Demon carb I need to hook my carbon canister up to.

um... will this thing work If I have no EGR? I have almost no emissions stuff on the car any more... just cats, and I'm putting PCV and this canister on. am I wasting my time?
The vacuum line on the right needs to route through a TVS to the timed port on the carb. That looks a lot like a mid-late '70s canister, so it should have a filter pad on the underside. Just another thing to check and maintain.
At the very least, you'll want a working PCV system. That's not so much as an emissions item, but to keep your engine and oil clean.

Well, if I'm understanding you correctly, the TVS is the vacuum tower on the front of my old intake.
My new intake doesn't even have a provision for a TVS. So is there a "backup" method to route the hoses??
Or can I hook it up to the timed vacuum port on the carb?

I have an '84 HO and my canister only has 2 inputs also. I think in your case the best thing to do is remove it. It isn't as simple as plugging into a vacuum port to get it to work properly. The purge TVS for the canister is downstream from the canister control valve which takes 2 lines from the carb (I think one is a vent and one is vacuum) and a line from the PCV valve. Your manifold doesn't have a place to mount the purge TVS either. The easiest cheapest thing for you to do is remove it. You will need to slap a filter/vent on the line to the fuel tank.
You should put the PCV back in place though.

I have the PCV hooked up already, which only leaves me two ports on the carb to hook up everything else, like power brakes, cruise control etc...
I plan to go ahead and "tee" off the PCV to the power brake booster, since I cant use the direct manifold plug, because the carb bowl covers it up. - What a pain....

what about me? what do I do? i have a pcv port AND a full vac port that can use, and i can get the canister. would putting a filter on the vent line keep the gas in the tank? or would I still lose gas mileage anyway? I'm pretty lost. doesn't anybody have a clue?
FYI, In the Haynes Camaro Manual 82-92 almost every major diagram in the emmisions section is from a '84 model. The sample emmisions control label is from a 84 also and it shows all the vacuum connections for emmisions. Lucky for us 84 owners.
