I picked up an Lt1 cam for 10 bucks. the cam has numbers on the rear face- BC 779
from what i have found this came out of either a 94-96 Caprice roadmaster or fleetwood.? If this is true, would this cam be any good for my L03. i cant seem to find specs on this cam.
nyone?

prolly, lt1 cams are very good than tha "broomstick" as my friend calls it, thats in em now. LO3 kinda suck all around, there are some people that put TPI MANIFOLDS on them just cuz they are better than the TBI ones. lt1 cam is very good on tbi engines

That's the weakest of the LT1 cams; but still quite a step upward from the L03 cam.

I actually got two cams the first was slightly damged in shipping some of the bearing profiles had nicks on them. machine shop said they might be okay after he put it to his polishing wheel. I was concerned with this, so the seller sent me a "new" cam the 779, cant recall off hand what the other # was.
nywhere i can find the specs for the diffrent lt1 cams?

just realized that the first cam i got is the 705. one of the bearing profiles took a hit on something and is dented. The machinist said he could polish it smooth and it should hurt anything since the dent is only about1/8" on one side. the proifile for the most part is unharmed.
What do you guys think should i go for the "hotter" cam or be safe with the smaller cam?

The 705 is the hotter one. I think that's about as good as you're going to get, for a cheap used take-out.

As long as the ding is on the bearing journal, and it's ground and polished back down below the rest of the journal, it will be fine.

If a lobe is dinged, it's trash.

the lobes are fine as far as i can tell the only problem i can see are a few nicks on the bearing profiles the major one is on the front profile

looks something like that it hit whatever it was on an angle. i believe it fell out of the package during shipping and hit the floor.
