What are some free LG4 mods????`
I have an 84 Camaro with the carbed 305 LG4. Since my TPI project is far from being finished, I was wondering what I could do to make my LG4 Camaro a little faster very cheaply. I have already changed the timing a few degrees and I have a K&N air filter. What else can I do for free or dirt cheap? ANY help is much appreciated. Thanks.

This isn't cheap, but since you are getting a 350 anyways, why not get a set of TES Edelbrock headers for $300, this will definately get your hp up. The headers will bolt right up to the 350.

There are a few tech articles on cheap mods for your q-jet in the tech section. You definitely should look into converting your air box to a dual snorkel unit, there is a good article on that too and it's very cheap. That would probably be the most noticable increase.

On the cheap, make a poor mans open element, just cut some windows in the air cleaner.
Although not free, changing the secondary metering will wake you up a little more. A 'B' hanger is only a couple bucks from edelbrock, CK rods are only like $7. If you ask opinions on the carb board, a lot of guys will advocate the DR rods. They're nice too, prolly abetter match for an LG4, but also a smidgen harder to track down, you'll actually need to find a GM parts counter that isn't stpid, and they cost a little more. The CK / B combo could be at your door from jegs for like $15.
Also, if you haven't done so, you can reduce tension on the air valve (doors over the secondaries) so they open faster (see tech article) This works best with better secondary fueling.
Depending on emmissions and the timetable of your TPI project, you can go ahead and take all the AIR stuff out of the engine bay, saves you weight, looks 100x better and is equally easier to work on.
Other than that, keep up on the little things, keeping your tune-up fresh, etc. Synthetic oil is worth a little HP and effieciency, but you'll have to weigh the cost vs. minimal gain of course if you get bored before your swap, headers would be useful for your future combo. You can get a cam for well under $100 and get as funky as you want with it, CCCS is very tolerant of, well, everything. That rear you're planning will also help out. You could also get some roller rockers, as they can be used on your next engine as well
hope that gives you some ideas.
