VATS
VATS
My car is in storage until end of april for the winter so I decided on sunday to start it up. I thought the battery was dead so I brought it home and charged it up. I returned today and it still would not crank at all. So I brought the battery to the parts store and it tested better than a new one the guy said. So I went back and started looking at all the connections between the battery and starter, all good. Checked the fuses, all good. So I called a friend who is a mechanic and he gave me some pointers including take some very fine sandpaper to the metal part of the VATS chip on the key. So I pulled the keys out of my pocket and realized there was a hole in the key where the resistor or chip used to be. Has this happened to anyone before? I have a spare, do I take both keys to the chev. dealer and have them make a copy?
Mark,
You can take the good key to either a dealer or a locksmith. Either place can make a replacement on an original GM blank, but around here the cost is $6.00 at the locksmith and $27.00 at the dealership. You might want to call around first.
