all you guys with 350 t-5's

Any problems with having this setup?

I have a t-5 world class tranmission and am wondering whether or not i should put a 350 in it if my 305 breaks.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'd say go for it!, things only get better with cubes!
Oh yea, and if the t5 breaks you have a perfect "excuse" to slap a t56 in there.

Thats just my opinion anyways.

85TA,

Go for it!! I swapped the auto from my 350 for a WC T-5 and nothing has blown up yet! My cousin runs a Ford T-5 and is into the 12's with no problems so far. I'm waiting for it to blow so I know the approximate limit!

Hey guys,
Just wanted to say thanks for the info. I've got an '87 IROC w/ TPI 305/5-speed. Its had about 124K miles put on it. I've been looking into swapping either a rebuilt L98 or ZZ4 crate motor into it if it coughs up the 305. Also how difficult is it to adapt the 6-speed over? I've seen a car with this done, but didn't get to talk to the owner.

Brendan,

he he.... My cousin will find the "limit" before I do. I wating for him to run again so I know what I'm up against!!! I'm trying to finish my other car (63 Comet Conv.) for this summer, so I'm not gaining speed on the GTA. As for what it runs now.... hell if I know!! Never run it at the strip and I don't believe in guessing or saying what cars I dusted!! I was thinking of going to the NE thirg gen gathering at the end of June. I'll run it then to find out how she goes. I put some money into it last fall, hopefully it will do well. Since I'm broke right now, I'm doing cheap mods. Smog equipment goes today.....

Iroc,

Can't help you on the six speed thing, never done it before. I do remember reading an article on the swap, but I don't remember where. I'm sure someone else has done the swap ......... anyone?

Sounds good GTAman63, I am going to try and make it to the NE gathering myself!

About the 6speed adaptation. I would go read Andris's article. It is very detailed and tells alot. If you have any questions you can email him. I'm sure he would be willing to help with any questions.

I dont know what the limit is, but so far I've had to replace the "dogs" on the 3-4 slider twice, and second and third gear once each.

If you have an 83-87 T5, get either an 88-92 T5, or go for a Tremec or T56 as soon as you can. The 83-87 T5 isnt as strong as the later ones, and wont last as well under the power.

Depends on how much you beat the trans, never powershift its unnecessary. I only go to the track maybe twice a year and use Nitto drag radials for cruising around as well as the track. I currently have about 25,000+ miles with the T5 setup. This year I plan on going to the track more frequently, so we will see what happens. But, I did break three teeth off my ring gear though.

My buddy put an 89WC t5 like mine in his second gen FBird with a carbed 350w/headers. It lasted 2 weeks.
Then he got the Tremec and it's been great!
