Alright....I have a very illegal engine....now I have to pass emssions...help!

So basically the only thing I have going for me is a brand new 3" cat I bought from Car Quest. I assume the cat is meant for a full size pickup truck, because that's the only thing that comes with a 3" exhaust stock so maybe, maybe not it will help this cause.

As far as this dry gas situation in helping to pass. How much and what gas/dry gas ratio do I need. Is dry gas the same thing as antifreeze? I've heard people refer to both.

Any help here guys will be appreciated.

Dry gas is alcohol. Get some denatured alcohol from the hardware store; run the car out of gas; put in a gallon of DE; and try it.

Damn...I just put $20 worth of 100 octane into it...is a higher octane going to hurt emissions.

Yeah, actually, for best emmisions you want to run the lowest octane available (lower octane burns more easily/completely) and also run the timing on the back bumper (like if you normally run 10', go for 0'.) I don't know about running straight alcohol, but i suppose you could give it a try.

Install an exhaust cut out so that none of your exhaust reaches the end of the tail pipe where they put the sniffer...

ummm, that's really illegal but so it only having a cat, but Engineboy or anyone else that knows his stuff...would you be able to tell that most of the exhaust isn't coming out the tailpipe, or is this actually a really good idea?

I guess they might be able to tell if it's really loud.

That bring me to my next question. Will the emissions place complain about noise level or are they strictly emissions? Please say they are!

You just gotta find someone willing to do it. Go in and ask the guy how much he wants to pass it for you. It will cost you like 200-400 most places, but it can be done. My neighbor knows a guy who will do it for a case of beer lol. They just hook up a different car and plug in your vin numbers.

what is the problem with yours not passing a lot of cars will pass. as long as your not running a drastic cam you could assuming carbed? lean it out givit a few small leaks headers are the best. and that should pass. the leaning will burn most of your fuel and bring up the nox but, the holes will bring in fresh air and make it seem ok.

i work for the emmissions stations in wisconsin. don't run pure alcohol and don't run high octane fuel. retard your timing and lean the motor out. run about a quarter tank of cheap gas and two bottles of the red heet iso pro alchol it should pass if it doesn't it will be damn close.
