where is ESC on tpi car
28,
The control should be in this area:
Was the water up to the bottom of the doors or over the sills?
The depth makes a big difference.

I get to show Vader he's wrong? No way!
Anyway, I believe the ESC is in the ECM on 90-92 speed density cars.
I plan on swapping from MAF to MAP and I read that somewhere.

John,
Uh-Oh, BUSTED! (Guess I'd better pay better attention to year!)
The older 1227165 ECM didn't have the provision for spark timing and detonation sensor interface completely within the ECM, but there was digital communication between the ECM and ESC.
The newer 1227730s had control for the ignition integrated in the ECM firmware, and a connection for the sensor at C3. The 1227727 (weather-sealed underhood version for 'Y' bodies) was functionally identical, but with different pinouts.
Not to muddy the water any further (sorry, Z28) but the 1227730 ECM (assumed to be a speed-density ECM) also has a provision in the firmware for a MAF sensor as well as the MAP sensor. The software of the PROM simply selects whether or not the input is used, and executes instructions accordingly. There's a lot of wasted hardware in a typical ECM, you know. There's also a lot of potnetial for that hardware, if you find the right programmer.

...and we STILL don't know how deep the water really was. Was it to the bottom of the doors or the top of the doors (bottom of the windows)?

MAF in the 7730? Now that's interesting.
Any documentation of which byte in volatile RAM it is? This may offer a solution to MAF guys who want greater versatility but wish to retain MAF (for their own reasons).
This 255 gm/sec limitation is solely due to the "single byte" definition of the MAF Scalar Tables. Had it been defined as a "double byte" there would have been 65,535 gm/sec limitation (software wise). The problem with the 165 6E (or 32B/32) eproms is that there is SO LITTLE SPACE left in it.
But, on the 8D 7730 eprom, there is tons of space. Only 58% of the eprom is used for code and/or data definitions. That leaves 42% available for more code or data.
Tell me more.

sorry to butt in this conversation but... how do you hook a aftermarket ingnition controler on a speed density then ??
or am I compleatly wrong and the ESC has nothing to do with it??? I dunno???

Glenn,
I know that terminal 'F10"is for a MAF signal input, and there is a separate inverted op amp in the firmware for the MAf analog signal. I've never looked at a hack of the 730/727 ECM PROMs so I don't know the address of the active byte. I'll bet someone does, though. Since this ECM was also used on the 2.8 PFI engines with a MAF in a 1987 Beretta and other cars, it must be available in there somewhere.
Maybe in my "spare" time...
