Running after key turned off, not dieseling
Running after key turned off, not dieseling
My 82 T/A without computer anything has an interesting anamoly that I'm hoping someone can help me fix.
When the car has not been running for a long time, i.e. it has just been started maybe 15 seconds ago, and I turn the key to off, the engine stops immeadiately. However, after the car has been running for maybe 5 or 10 minutes or longer, when I turn the key to off, the engine continues to run normally for about 5 seconds, and then stops. It is not dieseling, it sounds perfectly normal when it does this, and then just turns off like it normally would. When you turn off the key, the tach starts to slowly fall from where it was idling as the engine keeps running at constant idle speed. Then, after the engine runs for the 5 or so seconds, as it shuts off, the tach and the speedometer blip up and then go down to zero like they would normally rest.
The car has no alarm system or remote start or anything like that installed. Its a m4m quadrajet, vacuum advance HEI on a 350 with a t-5. Warm idle is at about 600 rpm, idle mixture isn;t overly rich. I dont think I see any correlation with engine temperature. I'm worried that it will at some point not at all shut off, and I'll have to resort to popping the clutch to stall it to turn the engine off.
Sorry for this being so long, thanks in advance for advice.

Check that anoying switch under the columb there are two rods that push and pull on that switch they are probably stuck and if you have never had that part worked on id assume its the problem. spray the rods with wd40 and they should free up.
