Ok, my name is Jason and I have a 92 Z28. Its a 305 TPI/auto. I am stumped by this problem I am having. The car will not idle smoothly, and when put in gear it dies out. This happened all the sudden last weekend when I was at the dragstrip. The car was running fine and this problem just occured in between runs when I shut it off. The only way I could make it home was to bump the idle up to about 1500rpm. At this time I also noticed I was getting what sounded like detonation. The only way to cure that was to turn up the fuel pressure and turn the timing down to 4deg. Anywhere past idle the car revs and runs fine, now. Also, sometimes the car wont start after running it for a little while, then shutting it off and then trying to restart it like 5 min later. I already changed the plugs, with no luck. Someone please help me.

I'd say try to reset your IAC valve. There's a tech article about this on the main site. If that doesnt help, then take out the throtle body and clean out the IAC valve and its passages. That should get you going.

Thanks Blade, I will give that a try. Is this something that would just happen all the sudden though? Any other suggestions are welcome.
