ideling high.

ideling high.

hello everyone, iam a new user and love the site(very useful) anyways, my '82 camaro(with crossfire) is ideling pretty high(around 1500rpm's) iam mildly mechanically inclined so anyone will have to explain to me what it is their talking about.

please help.

Check to see if you have a vacuum leak anywhere.

Welcome Aboard!

Fast is right (of course). High idle on an ERFI engine is generally due to excessive air, either from a vacuum leak or improper adjustment or maintenance. The usual suspects are all vacuum hoses, intake and throttle body gaskets, PCV valve, EGR valve, power brake booster, and sticking IAC valves.

Another thing to consider is that our old tachs tend to read a bit high, and keep getting higher with age. You might want to get an actual RPM reading from a handheld tach to verify what the dash tach is reporting.

well weather or not the gauge is working properly, it is ideling very high. will go almost 20mph in gear without touching the gas. thanks for the replys guys, keep 'em coming.
