Tightening power steering pump help!!
I have an 86 LG4 with 3 V-belts and one serpentine belt. The power steering pump has two belts on it. I loosened both bolts and the pivot bolt but had a hard time loosening the pump up. I eventually had to "persuade" it to give me some slack on the belts. when I went to tighten it up, I could not get leverage and thus now cannot tighten the belt that runs from the crank to the p/s pump (I could tighten the one that runs from crank to alternator to p/s).
My mecahnic told me to look for a square hole but I don't have that kind of bracket.
I can't drive her until I get this belt tightened as it makes a horrible whine noise every time I try to turn. Any thoughts on how to get leverage?

There's no square hole on that type of bracket.
Ther is however a place where there's a little tab sort of thing, right next to the slot that the adjustment bolt goes through that screws into the water pump. Right above that is a little round projection on the water pump casting. You can get a tire tool or something and lever the tab place using the round casting feature as the fulcrum.
There are 3 adjustment bolts: one bolt on the front, going to the WP; one on the rear, up kind of high on the pump; and one nut on the rear that screws onto a stud on teh back of the pump, that's easier to get to from below. Make sure you have all 3 loose before you try to tension the belt, and make sure you tighten all 3 back.
Whatever you do, DO NOT attempt to tension the belt by prying against the body of the pump!!!! All you'll do is bend the reservoir, which is a sheet metal "bottle around the pump proper which is a small cast thing about 4 or 5" in diameter; and it will then leak forever, until you replace it.

I can only find two adjustment bolts: a pivot on the top left, a horizontal adjust ment on front bottom left, and a vertical adjustmest on the rear right bottom. By horizontal and vertical I mean the slot the bolt rides through.

There are 3. Trust me; there are definitely 3.
Get underneath, and look up. You'll see the 3rd one.
Here's a pic. It shows the 2 on the rear. I doubt the one on the front is too hard to find.

THAT'S IT!!!!!!
Thank you. I would have never found that hidden bolt. As soon as I loosened it I could easilly adjust it.
I owe you one.
