A/C problem

I was working on my car most of the day yesterday, and while I was trying to set my timing on it, (I forgot to turn of the A/C) my A/C compressor started venting freon out of a pressure relief valve on the back of it, so I got a new compressor and accumulator and filter (required to keep the warrantee valid) changed them all out, put 2 -4oz. bottles (tech manual at autozone says 6-8 oz. for 134A converted system) turned the A/C on and tried to fill it, and it only took 2 1/2 12oz cans of freon, before the gauge was going into the yellow and then about 30 seconds later the combressor started out the vent again...WTF, by the way it still blows cool from the vents, the mechanic who converted it and my dad told me if I change thing out quickly I don't have to worrie about vacume the system so I diden't. any suggestions. thanks in advance

Sounds to me like it has moisture in it, which was freezing in the orifice tube and creating a blockage, which made the head pressure go REAL high and exceed the high-pressure vent valve's setting.

This is assuming that your cooling fan was working: a non-working fan will allow the temp and therefore the pressure inside the system to go sky-high, and have the same effet of creating excessive head pressure.

Yes you should use a vacuum pump on the system when it has been opened. An a/c filter/drier absorbs moisture pretty fast when opened to outside air.
