Pulling codes for dumbies

How do I go about this, tried to search but I couldn't find just what I needed. Is there a tech page or tech post I'm missing? Any and all help welcomed.

Just jumper pins "A" & "B" of the ALDL (Assembly Line Diagnostic Link) with a paper clip and turn the key to the "ON" position with the engine off. The first fans will come on and run which is a normal occurrance. The first code to flash will be 12, this also is a normal code. It will flash three times like this: FLASH...FLASH FLASH. After that, any other codes stored will flash three times each. After all codes have flashed, the cycle will repeat itself. After you have retrieved all stored codes, turn the key off and remove the paper clip.

You are correct sir, the ALDL is under the dash by the right knee. When done properly, you will notice that the Service Engine Soon (SES) light will be happily flashing at you from the idiot panel to the right of the steering wheel. Do not be alarmed if the following picture does not exactly match the set-up in your car. It is only a reasonable facisimile used strictly for training purposes only.
