Was this a good deal or not?
Got a question about a car I bought this weekend. My son and I were looking for a car to start restoring with hopes of having it done in 2-3 years. I used to bbe a mechanic and worked in a Pontiac dealership for several years. We were looking for an older Camaro or El Camino. This weekend we ran accross this car and could not pass it up. It is newer than we were looking for but it looks to be a neat project. It is a 84 Trans Am hard top. Body has no rust and is in relaly good shape. Ground effects are beat up on the front but not real bad. Has original alluminum wheels. Interier is mostly there but someone started tearing it out and got the console out before giving up. Console is sitting in the back. Only thing missing is the back seat. Needs the usual seat covers, carpet headliner etc. Was told engine ran but had a noise init when parked. Didn't bother me since I want to build an engine for it anyway. Now this car is no peach by any means and will need a lot of work. Since we are planning on doing a frame up type restoration anyway it is not that bad. The body havinng no rust was the biggest benefit I saw. We got the car and the owner let us use his trailer to haul it home and he even loaded it for us. Total cost to us was $50. I figured we could part it out and get that much out of it if we got discouraged down the road.Anyway, Where are some of the best places to order parts and items from to start repairing it? also, where is a good place to get a shop manual for it?
Thanks for the help and this is a great site.
