Edelbrock headers very close to frame
Edelbrock headers very close to frame
I have the Edelbrock tubular exhaust headers, and the driver side header has always been about 1/16" away from the frame member down there. Under mild acceleration, it rattles a bit.
It's never been a problem, I was just curious if other members have noticed this. Maybe I could have a muffler shop barely bend it or something.

Mine has plenty of clearance. Maybe you frame is twisted a bit.

You may need new motor mounts.

I've got Edelbrock headers, and I had a real problem with this. Every time I'd start the car up, grrrrrr. And everytime I'd accellerate, GGGRRRRRR. Talk about embarassing. It took me forever to get it right! I had a problem with the flanges on both headers hitting the frame. I fixed this by cutting off a little bit of one of the flanges, and turning them to just the right angle so they wouldn't rub. I also had a problem with the y-pipe rubbing against the oil pan and the crossmember. I fixed this by taking a prybar to the y-pipe. All I can say is good luck.
My frame is chillin, there's no funny business there. My problem is as ViciousZ described, low clearance right at the flange. At least mine is only on the driver side. Thanks for the input, I'm just glad to hear someone else had the problem.

Mine do the same thing. When the car was stock it didn't do it, but now with the Dart Pro 1 heads they sit a little higher (raised exhaust ports). If I don't have the the flanges set exactly right it makes the whole exhaust rattle.
