Call me bumb butt!!!!Here is my question:

what is the difference between a short block and a long (besides price). What are GM 305's and 350's(short or long)? If they are long would i have a problem putting a short in inplace of the long?

A short block can be any engine, but the only parts you get with a short bock are the block, crankshaft, rods and pistons. With a long block, you get basically the entire motor(ie. heads, oil pan, intake, ect...)

I assume when you say GMs 305s and 350s you mean the "crate engines". If so, I believe that they are at least long blocks. Actually I think some are even more complete, including all covers, intake manifold, and distributor.

yea, if that didnt clear up your question all the way... terms short and long have nothing to do with size, just how complete they are, like BBjason said

------------------
  • 83 Z28--ttops, 200k miles--very ragged out. sold after a year of owning it
  • 74 Z28--slightly modded 383, TH400 tranny, 10 bolt rear, not to swift, but a 700R4 and EFI is on the way
