305 power problem

i was looking at this 85 camaro z-28 with a modded 305 (edelbrock intake manifold, edlebrock 4 barrel -other stuff i can't see-) and when idling the power (lights/electrical) pulses like clockwork. any ideas as to what could be doing this? originally i thought maybe alternator. could be something else?

im looking to buy this car strickly for the motor to swap into my 1990 camaro rs because the exterior is in such poor shape.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated thank you

Under powered alt or one on its way out. Could also be a loose belt, Another thing it could be is a miss in the engine, When it is running listen to the engine without looking at the lights, see if it sounds like it is missing, then look at the lights and see if the miss corresponds to the pulsating lights.

it sounds like a purring kitten (very consistant idle). it has 177k on it (looks to be rebuilt). when i go to look at it again later today ill bring a voltage probe and see what the alternator is putting out (i hope its that). thanks very much
