is this normal, or do i need a new oil press. switch?

i have a 91 LO3 (one oil pressure sensor). it seems to be fairly accurate (stays around 45psi) EXCEPT when im not accelerating. when i let off of the throttle, the oil pressure needle goes completely random and jumps up and down all over; until i push the gas pedal the tinyest bit, it moves to its correct (im assuming) position and flows smoothly. is it only supposed to be accurate on acceleration or is this thing shot? thank you!

It's either the sending unit or the wire going to it.
