A V6 in 1969? Not from Chevy. The 69 Camaro came with a 230 cubic inch inline 6, there wasn't a V6 available.

They didn't have V6s in 1969. They had 6-cylinder motors, but they weren't V6. They were inline 6s. All 6 cylinders in a straight line. They sucked. Everybody would do everything within their power to keep from getting one. But when parents bought their kids a high-school graduation present, Mustangs and Camaros and Novas and stuff with 6-cylinders were frequent choices.

Why on earth (water?) would anyone actually prefer a 6-cylinder car? If you find one that actually still has a 6 in it, it will be cheap, because nobody else will be wanting it. They suck. Unless of course you are looking to do a V8 swap...

Insurance on a v8 isn't ridiculous unless its on a new car and you have tickets or accidents. Insurance isn't really all that high unless you have a bad record. A 6 cylinder engine would cost you about..nothing. No one would pay good money for one, hell.. I'll sell you a 6 for 6000 if you want. I bet I can get a junk yard one for cheap.

Get a 69 camaro, so you can say, "heh heh sixty-nine." Also, a first gen 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder car would have virtually the same insurance rates. Old cars aren't worth a lot so they are cheap.

I don't know about the V8 insurance thing but i do know when i was 17 in NJ liability insurance was about 1,200$ every 6 months. That was with an 86 Camaro V6 and didn't change one cent when i got an 89 Cav. This was 5-6 years ago. Just my .02 cents

It depends entirely on what has happened(or not happened) to the engine. It would definately be better than a 6 cylinder, well..except for gas milage. Make sure you have someone that knows a lot about cars help you shop around for one, its always nice to know what is wrong beforehand.

Finding a '69 camaro locally probably isn't an easy thing to do, let alone one in good condition. With 6500 you could get a junker and find a good engine to rebuild and still have money to spare. Would you want to restore it, or just buy one thats ready to roll?

Dude, insurance shouldn't be too much. I'm 16 years old and I drive a convertible Iroc and I manage the insurance on minimun wage. You just can't spend your earnings on other things. If the car doesn't have rust then it will be fine. If it has some rust then look to be doing some work and spending some serious cash.

I gotta jump in here. What is wrong with an original 1st gen with an original 6 cylinder? I find it nice to find an unmolested 1st gen with the six still in the bay. It would make a great daily driver and keep a potential lead foot out of trouble. Plus I've seen some real fast in-line six cylinder cars at the track. Man, a nice 69 RS with a six is "understated cool".

Being from maryland, you are not going to find a 69 camaro thats affordable (even with a six) that still has any metal left holding up the rear window. Plus the mouse infested interiors aren't a pretty sight. You must have alot of money for 16 to get a 1st gen (in good condition)

Plus as a daily driver? Spend all sorts of money to restore a 69 (or just get it drivable on min. wage) you'd better have alot of friends that know their ....

You can't even barter friends to help you for beer (how my hard proj get done)

If you lived in new mexico, arizona, socal where the cars don't rust i'd say maybe.

Maybe we should talk you into a 3rd gen? You can get them cheap, they are still in good/fair condition, and you can drive them while you mod 'em. A 69 ready to roll (that could pass inspection) will cost over 4000 G's (minimum!) and will break down all the time. Now drop 10-15 grand on one it'll be in good shape.

You might strike it lucky with 'the little old lady that took it to church on sunday so it has 25,000 miles on it' story. My brother got a Chager with light rust (garage kept) 440 six pack for $2500!!!)

If you can get a 69 for under 10g in good condition IE it has all the original parts and every thing is working and no rust would seal the deal for me. And of you want power a littile inline 6 has more tq than a stock SBC. I know that offenhouser makes a 4bbl manifold for ford inline 6's i had one in a bronco with a 390cfm holley 4bbl and a nasty cam it blew away every 302 bronco i ever raced and got killer gas mileage. So if you buy this 1st gen look around you might find a 4bbl that would light the tires.
