Just curious. It looks as if its up against the EGR valve. Its one black wire coming out of it. Thanks

Are they a commonly replaced part? I am trying to figure out why I'm having trouble with my temp gauge and everything else wrong with this pos motor. What would it effect, or rather, how would it make itself known if there were a problem present. Thanks

That diagnostic switch on the EGR would be part of a code 32 on the SES panel and has nothing to do with the temp gauge. Your temp gauge not working could be one of several things. A bad gauge, a bad coolant temp sending unit, a broken wire to sending unit, or the connector is not connected to the sending unit. The sending unit is located near the #1 sparkplug on the drivers side. Here is a diagnostic chart for the temperature gauge.
