how do you fire up a new engine ??

i got a 355. accel distributor, performer RPM intake holley 750, comp cam, and a couple of other things this past week and im pulling out my motor when it gets a little warmer in a day or 2 here hoppefully and i was wondering if there was a specific way to fire up a new motor ?

Maybe I am just paranoid, but, when firing a fresh motor, first I prime the oil pump. (I have the neat little tool for this, goes down the dist. shaft) Build as much pressure as my electric drill can manage, fire the engine and let it idle at about 1500 RPM for about 30 minutes. (this is generally to break in the cam, etc.) Shut down, change the oil, drive it for 500 miles, change the oil again. I have had great success with this process, now have 140,000 miles on rebuild......

If using a roller cam, I don't think you need the high idle time. Definitely prime the oil pump.
