Vader's attached image is actually of the choke heater block off which also serves as a mounting point for an old style divorced choke element.
An EGR blockoff is flat metal shaped just like an EGR valve gasket but is solid metal with no holes in it. Sorta triangular shaped, held in place by 2 bolts just like the EGR valve would be. Look at the mating surface of an EGR valve and imagine a solid piece of metal shaped just like it and you've got the basic idea. Yes, you still need to use an EGR gasket underneath it to seal it up or a large vacuum/exhaust leak will result.

You're right - Good catch! That's a choke block-off. I was confusing it with the last carbed engine I worked on. That is CLOSE to the EGR location on an '81 L82. I'm trying really hard to forget about three decades of carburetors.

now i wish i had some pics of the last 3 egr block off plates i made .....lol..all you need is a piece of steel and a cut of wheel or good ban saw and a drill go get a gasket use your old bolts and you have one for virtually nothing if you have any scrap laying around ...then just put a good coat of spray bomb paint on it and bam !! your done..LOL....its not that hard and ive never had aproblem with one yet
